Coffee Talk #1

October 18, 2018

Wow.  It has been a hot minute since I have been able to sit down an write a blog post for Classically Clad.  Outside of that fun Old Navy Haul on Tuesday that you can see here.  A lot has happened since I have written here last so I thought it would be appropriate to give you a little update.

I want to make these are a routine post for Classically Clad and call them Coffee Talks.  I will try to post a Coffee Talk every month.  This will give you some of the personal updates that have been happening in life that I might not always cover on Instagram.  Would you like personal monthly updates?  Comment below!

Graduation

Megan's Graduation

To start things off, I graduated!  I crossed the stage at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign in May and received my Advertising degree and a minor in Public Relations.  In the last 4 months, I have continued to think about how blessed I was to be at an amazing school.  I’m still in contact with some of my professors and can’t even begin to tell you how helpful they have been while I looked for jobs.

Job

I started a Marketing and Communications Manager position in July and quickly learned that the position was not the best for me.  I ended up leaving the position, but I learned SO MUCH in the time that I was there. Also, I learned about myself, business etiquette, characteristics of positions that I know I will love, and countless other things.  Making the decision to leave the company was extremely difficult for me, but I do believe that it has been a small piece of my life experiences that helped make me who I am today.  I have grown from the experience and I am forever grateful for that.

No job… now what?

I have been looking for other positions, but I have not found anything yet. I’m extremely picky after my last job because I feel like I have a clearer understanding of what I want and do not want.  I’ve been doing some babysitting to make some money, but more importantly, I have been pouring my heart and soul into Classically Clad.

Probably, I spend close to 40 hours a week, and maybe even more, working on the blog.  I spend a decent chunk of time on continued learning.  The idea of social media, blogging, email marketing and affiliate networking are not topics that were covered during my time at U of I because they are new marketing topics within the last 10 years.  I have invested time in to joining online classes, listening to podcasts, and finding as many trailblazers as I can to deep dive into the industry.

Content Creation

When I am not learning, I am spending time creating content for ALL OF YOU.  I can not even begin to tell you how much fun I am having with the blog.  I love it.  Picking outfits that I think you love, looking for sales, teaching you beauty tips and everything in between has become “my job”.  The only reason I can say that is because all of you have been SO AMAZING.  You have supported me.  You have given me your feedback.  Also, you have shown my social media some love through following, liking, and commenting.  YOU ARE ALL MAKING THIS POSSIBLE.  I will never be able to thank you enough for this opportunity.

My job update was big, but I have even bigger news.  I had 3 life changes after graduation that have been a big deal for me.

Coffee Talk by Megan

  1. I bought a puppy.
  2. My family moved out of the neighborhood that I have lived in for 22 years.
  3. My boyfriend started Veterinary School so we are officially long distance for 4 years.

Life is moving fast.  I can barely keep up, but hopefully, this Coffee Talk series will feel like you get a decent chance of staying up to date as often as possible.  Let’s talk again soon!  I hope you all enjoyed me getting to know me a little more.

P.S. I hope you all enjoyed me getting a little more personal on the blog.  This post could have been many more pages so if you want even more info, leave a comment.  I would be happy to elaborate on any of these topics in a different blog post.
